Oswego is being developed by James Bay Investments Ltd., a Vancouver-based company.
The owners of James Bay Investments Ltd. have been involved in numerous real estate projects in British Columbia and Alberta, including most recently, the construction of an 130,000 square foot mixed use retail and residential project at Garibaldi Village in Squamish, B.C.
The key to the success of Oswego lies in the team that JBI has put together to build, equip and manager the hotel. This team includes:
Architect: Christopher Rowe, Cannon Design, Victoria
martensGROUP Licensed Interior Design Studio Ltd.
John Bryson & Partners
Hirschfield Williams Timmins, Victoria
Levelton Consultants, Victoria
Homewood Constructors Ltd., Attention John Newton, Victoria
Mike Duggan, Boutique Hotels of B.C. Ltd.
Founded over 50 years ago, Cannon Design is an international architectural, engineering and planning firm recognized for design excellence and technological innovation. The company's vision is to plan and design buildings that enhance the quality of life and contribute value to the built environment. Cannon Design believes that imagination, creativity, and the application of practical solutions leads to great design and buildings that are a thoughtful response to their program mission, physical setting and functional purpose.
Architect Christopher Rowe has built his reputation in Victoria through the design of projects which balance respect for Victoria's culture and context with an optimistic, modern design sensibility. Chris' designs for projects as varied as the Arc Building at Selkirk Waterfront and the Broad Street Revitalization place an emphasis on responsiveness to the city context, the tactile and visual qualities of real materials cleanly detailed, and the richness and pleasure of the architectural experience.
The design concept for the Oswego is based on maximizing views and light, fitting well into the James Bay streetscape, and creating a building that is rich in texture and detail. Crisp, solid, and slender rectangular forms, crystalline window-walls, subtle asymmetries, and an unexpected patterning of windows and warm brick are used to build a hotel that is urbane and sophisticated while at the same time casual and inviting.
Both inside and out, the hotel will provide the guest with a true west coast experience, where city and nature meet in a refined and balanced whole.
